Dr. Fernando Arias

Colombia project
In honor of Dr. Fernando Arias, Ph.D., and his life's work caring for mothers and children, A Child's Right will oversee a project in Colombia in his name in 2008. Working with hospitals, orphanages, children's shelters, and schools, we will install 10 clean water systems providing thousands of children with clean and safe drinking water for years to come. We thank Dr. Arias' family, friends, and colleagues who wished to pursue this goal in honor and loving memory of Dr. Arias and the impact he had on so many during his life.

In Memory of Dr. Arias: Fernando Arias was born in the small town of Calarca, Colombia, on June 11, 1934, one of nine children in his family. From that humble beginning, Dr. Arias went on to become a renowned medical doctor and one of the world's preeminent scholars in the field of maternal-fetal medicine. Dr. Arias published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and the book, Practical Guide for the Management of High Risk Pregnancy and Delivery, which has been translated into Spanish, Russian, and German and is soon to come out in its third edition. In addition to his scientific scholarship, Dr. Arias' medical career was also characterized by his unwavering commitment to excellence in the care of his patients.

Dr. Arias passed away on August 7, 2007. He will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and colleagues. He leaves a lasting legacy in the many lives he touched with his warmth, generosity, and consummate dedication to his profession and the care of his patients.
